North Crowned Premiers
North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos have successfully completed the most dominate season in AFLW history, by becoming the first ever club to finish unbeaten, after completing their revenge from last year, beating Brisbane 6.3- 39 to 1.3 9 in front of a sold-out Ikon Park.
Jaz Garner continued to lead the way for North with her 35 touches helping her be awarded the Erin Phillips Award. Ash Riddell continued to be the perfect partner in the North 1-2 midfield punch, by contributing 29 touches, whilst Alice O’Loughlin and Vikki Wall combined for 5 of North’s 6 goals.
North’s win caps off a dominant season where they only lost points with a draw against Geelong in round 2. North become the first ever expansion club to win as AFLW premiership and is their first premiership win since 1999. For Brisbane, they couldn’t complete the feat of being the first team to go back-to-back and ends Brisbane’s reign of being premiers in both the AFL and AFLW.
