ANZAC Day

Sherrin introduces range for ANZAC Appeal Round

This weekend AFL joins with the rest of Australia and New Zealand to celebrate and pay respects to the ANZACs and their significant contribution and sacrifice made to their countries. ANZAC Day is a date that is instantly circled by the majority of the AFL fan base as one of the biggest Home and Away games of the year, not just for the match up but also for the symbolic nature the game plays on Anzac Day.

Collingwood and Essendon have been the staple of the ANZAC Day fixture since 1995 and have produced games and moments worthy of the date that they play it on. Collingwood lead the series between the clubs on ANZAC Day 16-10. This season’s match up sees two teams in great form, sitting 2nd and 3rd, and a win for each team could well be the catalyst for a Top 4 run as the season continues. This will be the 8th match up of Richmond and Melbourne on ANZAC Eve, with Melbourne currently leading the series 4-3. The game has become another hard hitting fixture worthy of being a running game during such an important round. The game this year promises to be huge, with both teams hoping for a season that runs deep into September.

This year Sherrin continues our support of the RSL and ANZAC Appeal, with three custom game balls produced for the round. For the first time, all games before Monday’s ANZAC Eve game will be using a ball that has the ANZAC Appeal logo on it. The ANZAC Eve and ANZAC Day games have two unique yellow game balls printed with the ANZAC Appeal logo, competing teams, date and venue. Both games feature a yellow game ball due to the first bounce being after 3pm AEST. Only 160 of the ANZAC Eve and Day balls have been made in total.

Sherrin recently invited Fundraising Manager from the RSL, Peter Smith to the Keysborough factory to see the game balls being crafted. He talked about the importance of the game on Anzac Day, ‘I particularly like, with that stadium, with 90,000 plus in there, they are beautifully respectful and pin drop quiet. For them, it is their ANZAC Service.’

Sherrin have continued its support of the ANZAC Appeal with 15% of each ANZAC game ball being donated to help support veterans in need. For more details on the appeal, visit the RSL website here.
