AFLW Season 7 Launch

With AFLW team expansion complete, history will be made with Sydney Swans, Essendon, Hawthorn and Port Adelaide entering their inaugural seasons. We will see all 18 teams clash over a 10 week home and away season, allowing fans from all states the opportunity to attend traditional state derbies, as teams fight it out for the Premiership glory.

Kickstarting Round 1 on Thursday 25th August, in a traditional season opener, Carlton and Collingwood will come head-to-head at Ikon Park. Other key matches in the opening round include a Grand Final rematch between Adelaide Crows and Melbourne, while Essendon and Hawthorn will kick off their AFLW season debut at Marvel Stadium, after fans sold out ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne within 24 hours.

AFLW captains 2022

Season 7 will be the biggest year of the competition yet, not only will 18 teams take the field, Indigenous Round in weeks 3 & 4 will see the first ever AFLW Dreamtime Match between Richmond and Essendon. Additionally, there will also be a Good For Footy Round and Pride Round to celebrate the expansion of the league and football community in Rounds 6 and 8 respectively. To celebrate the kick-off of Series 7, our Sherrin Ambassador, Chloe Molloy went back to her grassroots, Diamond Creek Women’s Football Club to speak to some up-and-coming superstars of the game.

The AFLW Final Series for Season 7, will pan out over a four-week period and will follow the format of the AFL Final Series where the top eight teams will clash for the top honours. Since its inception in 2017, AFLW now has over 540 athletes competing across the 18 teams. With new talent and old rivalries, this season is sure to be a thriller!
