AFL Finals Preview

The AFL Finals are here, and with that, the best 8 teams are left to battle out for AFL’s biggest prize! In what has been one of the most exciting and tight competitions the league has seen, the race is wide open on who’ll prevail on the final Saturday of September. Below is a preview on all 4 games of the opening weekend.

Thursday night will see over 90,000 people make their way to the MCG to watch minor premiers Collingwood take on Melbourne. Nick Daicos will miss the match, but the star power is still there, as Darcy Moore looks to lead his Pies against Gawn, Petracca, Oliver and co. They met on King’s Birthday, in a match that ended with a 4-point win to the Dees, so Thursday night promises to be a classic.

Friday night sees Carlton return to the finals for the first time in 10 years, as they host last years grand finalists Sydney at the MCG. Blues fans will pack the G to the brim to watch as Cripps takes the field for the first time during the finals. The Swans won their only match-up of the season in Sydney, so will enter Friday night full of confidence.

Saturday sees a double header with the Saints hosting GWS at the G in the afternoon timeslot. The Saints will hope that the Giants can’t continue their impressive end-of-season form, as the Saints ended their season a little bit slowly, only winning 2 of their final 4 games. St Kilda won the only match-up between the 2 teams in Sydney earlier in the season.

Finally, Saturday night, the attention turns to Brisbane and the Gabba, as the Lions host the Power. The Lions will be hoping history repeats itself, and that there is another power outage again at the Gabba, this time figuratively. Both teams have spent majority of the season in the top echelons of the ladder and with plenty of A-level talent and a combined 4 All-Australian players.

This finals series promises to be an epic contest!
