AFL Opening Round is Finally Here

The 2025 AFL season is officially back this week, with the league’s Opening Round getting underway from Thursday night.

The season officially kicks off with a rematch of last year’s Preliminary Final as reigning premiers Brisbane host Geelong at the Gabba. Friday night sees 2024 runners up Sydney taking on an exciting young Hawks team who are coming off their first finals appearance in six years and are looking to cement themselves as real contenders. Saturday’s matchup includes two teams who are hoping to end their own finals droughts in 2025, with Gold Coast lining up against Essendon at People First Stadium. Opening Round concludes on Sunday with two teams who could almost be considered modern rivals, as Collingwood travels to ENGIE Stadium to take on the GWS Giants.

While there might only be eight out of 18 teams officially back this weekend, Sherrin is ecstatic for the new AFL season, and we can’t wait to see another exciting season unfold over the next few months.
